Earlier Origin?
A new study suggests the polar bear originated 5 million, not 600,000 (or 130,000), years ago.
Polar and brown bears have periodically interbred, during prior times of warming, "when brown bears moved north and polar bears were forced onto land", it adds. (No prior warmings came on nearly as fast as this current one did, however.)
